First Public Caravan Service Area Opens in La Guancha, Tenerife
The Cabildo de Tenerife has launched a public service area for caravans at the Logistics Centre in La Guancha. This initiative marks the first free facility of its kind in the northern part of the island, complementing the three existing services in Tenerife, including those in Arona and the Jagua clean point in Santa Cruz.
In its first month, the service welcomed 166 caravan users, who can dispose of waste and refill their water supplies at the site. The new facility aims to prevent uncontrolled waste disposal in environmentally sensitive areas, underscoring the Cabildo’s commitment to sustainable waste management, especially as caravan tourism continues to grow on the island.
During the launch event, Blanca Pérez, the regional minister for Natural Resources, Sustainability, Security and Emergencies, highlighted the importance of these new services. She stated, “The opening of these service areas is a significant step in our strategy to balance the growth of route tourism with environmental protection.” Pérez added that the initiative responds to a long-standing request from the caravan community, noting it has already yielded positive results.
Alejandro Herrera Luis, the mayor of La Guancha, expressed that the facility enhances existing waste treatment services, benefiting the entire region. He acknowledged the improvements, stating, “This new area for caravan waste disposal expands the services this facility offers.”
Representatives from various caravan associations praised the Cabildo for its collaboration and support for caravan users. They described the new waste disposal point as a major improvement that addresses the community’s needs.
The waste management department has plans to create additional caravan zones across clean points on the island. The recently opened locations in La Guancha, Jagua, and Arona operate on specific hours: Mondays from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM; Tuesday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM; Saturday from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM; and Sunday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
