Granadilla de Abona Hosts Sixteenth New Talents Festival
On Sunday, August 9, Granadilla de Abona celebrated its sixteenth New Talents Festival in El Médano Square. Organised by the Youth Department, the event showcases young artistic talent from across the Canary Islands.
The festival kicked off at 8 PM, inviting participants aged 12 to 30 to perform their art in various categories, including solo performances, musical groups, dance, and the ‘Show Your Talent’ segment. The aim was to promote participation and visibility for emerging artists.
Mayor José Domingo Regalado highlighted the festival’s significance in fostering young creativity. “This event reflects the immense talent and enthusiasm of our youth. We are committed to creating spaces where they can express themselves and contribute to our cultural life,” he said. Regalado congratulated all participants, especially the winners, acknowledging their hard work and passion.
Youth Councillor Raquel Morales praised the festival’s growth over its 16 years. “We are proud to provide opportunities for young artists throughout the Archipelago. Each year unveils new voices and talents,” she noted. Morales also thanked all participants for their contributions, vowing to continue supporting creative activities.
The festival awarded a total of €4,900 in prizes, with €600 and a Gold Granada for first place in each category, €400 and a Silver Granada for second, and €200 and a Bronze Granada for third. A special prize of €100 was also given for the best original song.
Participants must not have released a professional recording to ensure the festival remains focused on promoting new talents.
