A man is facing 15 years in prison for allegedly stabbing his partner in the neck during a shocking attack at their home in Arrecife, Lanzarote. The trial is set to take place this week at the High Court in Las Palmas.
According to the public prosecutor’s statement, D.O.C.P. has been charged with attempted murder, with aggravating circumstances due to the nature of the relationship and the gendered nature of the violence.
In addition to the prison sentence, the prosecutor is seeking a compensation payment of €100,000 for the victim, alongside a 20-year restraining order preventing D.O.C.P. from approaching or communicating with her.
Following the attack, the woman was able to call emergency services, informing them she had been stabbed. When police arrived, D.O.C.P. was still in the home, and the victim reported she could not open the door because she did not have the keys.
The woman sustained a deep, penetrating wound in her neck measuring 4 to 5 centimetres, which caused significant damage. She also suffered additional injuries including a two-centimetre wound and another 4-centimetre injury, both of which required surgical treatment and 152 days to heal.
As a result of her injuries, she now faces lasting effects, both physical due to visible scars and psychological, stemming from post-traumatic stress. D.O.C.P. has been in custody since March 10, 2025, in relation to this case.
