Sosa’s candidacy is part of a coalition that includes Primero Canarias and Coalición Canaria, aimed at ensuring the Canary Islands regain political relevance in the Spanish Parliament. He emphasises that the alliance reinforces efforts to prevent the islands from becoming “irrelevant.”

Despite the imminent elections on 29 November, he remains committed to serving out his term as mayor until May 2027 and suggests that his potential role in Madrid could offer opportunities for better governance back in Gran Canaria.

In an interview, Sosa distinguishes his coalition from Vox, stating his refusal to support any government that relies on them. He believes such alliances threaten the autonomy of the Canary Islands and its specific needs, particularly in health and housing. He aims to make housing a priority issue, proposing that properties should primarily benefit long-term residents.

Regarding his alliance with Coalición Canaria, Sosa points out that it was a collective decision made over a year of discussions, recognising the public’s desire for unity among nationalist parties. He anticipates that his coalition will effectively address key issues like housing and migration, reinforcing his commitment to a socially equitable agenda.

Sosa also calls for a significant reform of Spain’s political recognition of the Canary Islands, advocating for equal negotiation power similar to that of Catalonia and the Basque Country. He expresses frustration with the lack of urgent action from the central government regarding the islands’ pressing social and economic challenges.

As the campaign progresses, Sosa’s focus remains firmly on the needs of the Canarian people, asserting his dedication to their interests above all else. His vision for the future emphasises sustainable tourism and housing policies that reflect the unique demographic and geographic circumstances of the Canary Islands.
