Asamblea Majorera – Coalición Canaria Fuerteventura has selected Nuria Cabrera as its candidate for the Senate and Juan José Rodríguez for the third position on the party’s list for the Congress of Deputies ahead of the general elections on 29 November.
Both nominations were unanimously approved during a meeting of the Assembly and the Insular Political Council on 15 October, following voting at the party’s headquarters. The formation is promoting a new generation of candidates demonstrating strong commitment to the party and local institutions.
Mario Cabrera, the insular secretary of AM-CC Fuerteventura, highlighted that this unanimous support reflects the organisation’s confidence in the candidates. He stated, “They are the voices from Fuerteventura that we need to defend the island’s interests at the national level.” He stressed the importance of translating local institutional commitment to the Senate and potentially Congress if election results permit.
Cabrera also warned that the upcoming elections present a complex political landscape due to the rivalry between two major party blocs, which are more concerned with their own interests than addressing the real needs of the Canary Islands. He argued that it is crucial to have a Canary nationalist representation in Madrid to ensure citizens’ rights are upheld, irrespective of which party is in power.
Nuria Cabrera expressed gratitude for the trust placed in her and acknowledged the significant challenges facing Fuerteventura, particularly concerning housing, water, and connectivity issues. She reinforced the need for a distinct voice in the Senate to advocate for the island and push for concrete commitments from the government.
Juan José Rodríguez, the congressional candidate, pledged to bring focus back to the community’s needs, asserting that a nationalist vote is essential. “We need representatives who will advocate for Canary interests free from the constraints of large state parties,” he insisted.
AM-CC Fuerteventura has called on its members and supporters to unite for the upcoming elections, emphasising the importance of showcasing the organisation’s strength and capacity to defend Fuerteventura in decision-making arenas.
