This initiative, coordinated with the Local Police, aims to help women feel safer within their own homes. Corujo noted that many victims are unaware of this important resource and stressed the need to get the word out so that those in need can take advantage of it.

The service allows eligible women, who reside in Arrecife and have a valid protection order or a restraining order, to replace their home locks at no cost. It also extends protection to their household members.

To access the service, women can contact the Local Police in Arrecife by calling 928 811 317 or visiting their offices at Avenida Vargas, number 4. Once a request is received, the Local Police will engage the company responsible for the lock change, which will be completed within 24 hours.

Corujo emphasised the importance of informing women about the available resources, ensuring that no one who meets the criteria misses out simply because they aren’t aware of the service. She also assured that all information provided will be treated with full confidentiality, in compliance with data protection regulations.

In emergencies or immediate danger, individuals should call 112.
