The 19th edition of the Alisios Festival Pop takes place this Saturday, 3 October, in La Laguna’s Plaza del Adelantado. The event, which is free to enter, will feature four finalist bands along with activities promoting inclusion, sustainability, and equality.
Starting at 6 p.m., the festival will celebrate live music and showcase emerging talent from the Canary Islands. The programme includes a mixture of band competitions, guest performances, and various cultural activities.
Sergio Eiroa, the councilor for Education and Youth in La Laguna, emphasised the festival’s role in making culture and music accessible to young people. He stated, “We want the youth of La Laguna to find alternatives for enjoying their free time, sharing experiences, and discovering new artists,” adding the festival helps emerging musicians find platforms to showcase their work.
Eiroa highlighted the significance of providing leisure options for young people and supporting new talent through events like Alisios, which fosters expression, community, and participation.
Estefanía Lima, from Marcha Go and Punto Medio Eventos y Producciones, praised the festival’s history and noted many artists have used it as a stage to connect with audiences. This year’s edition will not only feature band competitions but also a mix of activities that enhance the festival experience.
The day’s activities kick off at 6 p.m. with a radio set, interviews, a panel discussion on women in culture, community encounters, a photo exhibition, and performances from dance academies. Included in the programme are an inclusive performance and a sustainable photo booth.
Alisios Festival Pop aims to showcase emerging artists across diverse musical styles, with a jury of industry professionals assessing entries. Live music will take centre stage at 8:30 p.m. with a performance by Supergigante, the 2023 festival winners.
The band competition starts at 9:00 p.m. with four finalist groups: Lanzarote’s Lidia con Ello, Tenerife’s Les Chimichurris and Latitud28, and Gran Canaria’s Descentrado & Los Sibarita, all performing original compositions for the chance to win an EP recording at DCA Music.
The festival will feature Papá Pinsso during the interludes and will conclude at 11 p.m. with Abora Project, the 2025 winners, returning to present their new material.
Since its inception in 2008, Alisios Festival Pop has been dedicated to bringing music and culture to younger audiences while offering visibility and opportunities for emerging artists. This year’s event is backed by the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo of Tenerife, and La Laguna City Council, alongside contributions from several local organisations, with Marcha FM overseeing the event’s organisation.
