The first snowfall of the season has closed access to the summit of Mount Teide. During the early hours of Tuesday, the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (Cecoes) 112 managed 22 incidents due to adverse weather conditions in the Canary Islands, with 19 of these reported in Gran Canaria, none of which were significant.
Moisés Sánchez, director of 112 Canarias, stated that emergency services operated with “total normality” throughout the night. However, from 3am, the onset of convective activity over Gran Canaria led to reports of issues related to rainfall.
The incidents mainly involved sewer overflows on public roads, electricity supply disruptions, and other basic service problems. Additionally, traffic obstacles arose due to landslides affecting various points on the island’s road network.
Sánchez noted that the municipalities most affected were Agaete, Mogán, La Aldea de San Nicolás, and San Bartolomé de Tirajana. He also confirmed that Cecoes 112 is continually monitoring the weather and potential incidents stemming from this weather event.
