Fire Danger Alert Continues in Gran Canaria
The Canary Islands’ Emergency Management Directorate has extended the fire risk alert for Gran Canaria this Sunday. The warning applies to areas above 400 metres across the island, while Tenerife, El Hierro, La Palma, and La Gomera remain on pre-alert status, according to the regional government.
This decision comes after assessments from the State Meteorological Agency and other sources, following the protocols outlined in the Special Civil Protection and Emergency Attention Plan for Wildfires in the Canary Islands (INFOCA).
Although a heatwave has ended, Gran Canaria is not expected to regain adequate humidity levels until Monday, 28th September. Additionally, two active wildfires on the island, though currently under control, are being closely monitored.
