The Cabildo de Fuerteventura has now concluded this initiative, where participants undertook nearly thirty projects in collaboration with Museos de Fuerteventura. Their work included the restoration of lighthouses at Jandía, Tostón, and La Entallada, the Cultural Heritage Complex in Ampuyenta, as well as traditional windmills in Valles de Ortega, La Corte, and Villaverde, plus the area surrounding Casa del Arrendatario in Cofete.

Additionally, efforts extended to other historical sites, such as the Unitary School in Tesjuate and the Wrestling Field of Casillas, coordinated with local councils. The programme also focused on ecclesiastical elements, restoring churches in Tuineje, Tetir, and Antigua, alongside other rural temples like Nuestra Señora de la Peña in Vega de Río Palmas.

This employment plan was co-financed by the Cabildo de Fuerteventura and the Canary Islands Government through the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN). Insular president Lola García highlighted the importance of employment initiatives in providing public services that meet community needs. She noted that preserving and rehabilitating the island’s heritage sites is key to maintaining their appeal for visitors and safeguarding their unique identity.

Nuria Cabrera, the Employment Promotion Councillor, pointed out that such programmes not only create local job opportunities but also aim to support vulnerable populations facing challenges in the job market, while enhancing Fuerteventura in various aspects as per community requests.
