The Arona Town Council in Tenerife has launched a photography competition named ‘Miradas de Arona’, offering a total prize fund of €3,000 to capture the essence of the municipality. The contest is open to anyone over the age of 18, regardless of residency, and aims to showcase the life, culture, and landscapes of southern Tenerife. Submissions started on October 1, and the deadline for entries is 11:59 PM on October 30.
Naím Yánez, the Council’s Tourism councillor, emphasised the importance of acknowledging the beauty of the surroundings and preserving it through photography. Participants can submit a maximum of three images, which may be in colour or black and white and taken within Arona. The photographs must be original and not previously submitted to other contests.
A strict rule excludes any images altered by generative Artificial Intelligence, ensuring that only authentic photographs are considered. Participants must keep the original files, which may be requested by the organisers after submission. A panel of at least four judges will evaluate the entries based on technical quality, originality, and thematic relevance without knowing the identities of the photographers.
Winning images will not only receive monetary prizes—with €700 for first place and €300 for second in each category—but will also be exhibited at the Centro Cultural de Los Cristianos and used for promotional materials such as postcards and bookmarks. Importantly, photographers retain ownership of their work while granting the council a non-exclusive, free license for promotional use.
The application process is entirely digital, allowing participants to register and submit their work online at concursosdecanarias.es. The technical and administrative management is handled by GMB Horizon. Further details and the registration form can be found on the competition’s webpage.
