Firstly Canarias announced on Tuesday it has begun discussions to form a joint list with Coalición Canaria for the general elections on 29 November. After a meeting of its Executive Committee, Henríquez explained they now need to present their proposal to other interested parties involved in the “Mesa de Unidad Canaria,” aiming to agree on candidates and lists in the Las Palmas province before the electoral deadlines.

Following a national executive meeting where they updated party members on their decision, Henríquez stated they will reconvene the Mesa de Unidad Canaria to establish a candidacy that prioritises the interests of Canary Islanders in Madrid.

He noted that the process will conclude with a manifesto on Canary unity, highlighting the necessity for nationalist representation in Madrid.

Henríquez emphasised the importance of a united front, explaining, “There are far more things that unite us than divide us. To protect the interests of the Canaries, a nationalist force in Madrid is crucial, especially in this election where we find ourselves between left and right, between Barcelona and Madrid. Our focus is on defending the interests of Canary Islanders, regardless of which side of the political spectrum they are on.”

While admitting they face tight deadlines, Henríquez suggested Teodoro Sosa “could be an excellent candidate for any election that arises,” but he avoided confirming Sosa’s inclusion in the “Canarian loyalty” list. He highlighted that the Mayor of Gáldar is “the candidate with the most potential and capability within Primero Canarias,” yet reiterated that the final decision will not rest solely with his party.
