Juan Oficialdegui, a Navarre entrepreneur, has opened Txoko Teguise, a new restaurant in the NUA shopping centre in Costa Teguise, near Las Cucharas. The establishment is inspired by the gastronomic societies of northern Spain, emphasising quality and a friendly atmosphere.
In an interview with Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero’s show Más de Uno Gourmet, Oficialdegui discussed his reasons for choosing Lanzarote and the range of nearly sixty dishes on offer.
He began his career in hospitality as a runner, gradually advancing to own multiple establishments in Pamplona. He selected Lanzarote after exploring locations in the Balearics, Tenerife, Las Palmas, and Alicante, ultimately finding the island’s values closely aligned with those in Navarre.
The restaurant aims to blend Lanzarote’s local cuisine with Navarre’s culinary heritage. It features high-quality island products like rock fish and potatoes, alongside fresh Navarrese produce such as artichokes and asparagus. Txoko Teguise incorporates 20-30% Navarre ingredients into its offerings.
The name “Txoko” refers to a private gastronomic society in Navarre and the Basque Country, where friends and family gather to prepare meals together in well-equipped kitchens. This collaborative spirit reflects in the restaurant’s approach, aspiring to make guests feel at home through their food and service.
Patrons can expect a focus on high-quality ingredients sourced from the island, including sourdough bread, local fish, and tomatoes from Tinajo. Signature dishes include grilled artichokes served with a mushroom sauce and poached egg.
The restaurant is open year-round, serving lunch and dinner every day.
