Three Fishermen Rescued from Derailed Vessel off El Hierro
Rescue teams saved three fishermen on Thursday night from a boat that had gone adrift over 230 kilometres southwest of El Hierro. The fishing boat, which had set sail from La Restinga two days earlier, encountered engine and electrical problems.
Emergency services at the Tenerife control centre received an alert about the distressed vessel at 7:30 PM but were unable to establish contact for a further two hours. The fishermen reported they were taking on water.
In response, the Helimer 204 helicopter was dispatched. Meanwhile, a nearby yacht, the ‘DRAAK’, was also alerted to provide assistance until the aerial rescue could be executed, successfully bringing the fishermen back to the island.
