Citizens have until next Monday, 12 October, at 19:30 to vote for their favourite design on the website carnavaldetenerife.com. This participatory process will determine the official image for this year’s Carnival, themed “Eternal Rome: The Empire of Carnival.” The winning designer will receive a prize of €12,000.
The winning design will be unveiled on Friday, 16 October, at 20:30 in the central Plaza del Príncipe in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Organised by the city’s Festival department, the event will feature the five finalists and mark the symbolic start of the Carnival.
Following the announcement, the public square will host the first carnival party of 2027, featuring Puerto Rican singer Tonny Tun Tun, who will perform popular songs like “Noche de Copas,” “La incondicional,” and “Porque sin ti.” The musical segment will also include the Maquinaria Band, which will present classic Carnival anthems.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez has urged citizens to participate in this event, noting that each year the council seeks a new location for the announcement, with 2027 being held in a key spot for the street Carnival. Javier Caraballero, the city’s Festivals councillor, emphasized that the event will showcase the passion Tenerife locals have for their most significant festival.
This day in Plaza del Príncipe will serve as a festive preview ahead of the official start of Carnival 2027, which kicks off formally on 22 January with the Opening Gala.
