The Tenerife Cabildo is set to commence rehabilitation works on the TF-1 motorway this Sunday, 25 October, covering 18.6 kilometres between Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Arafo. The project, valued at over €13.8 million, will start overnight and is expected to last for six months.

Work will begin on the night of 25-26 October, potentially disrupting traffic on the southern motorway. The rehabilitation includes two separate sections: the first, an 8.5-kilometre stretch from kilometre markers 1.4 to 9.9 in Santa Cruz and El Rosario, is awarded to Transformaciones y Servicios, S.L. The second involves a 10.1-kilometre stretch from 9.9 to 20.0, spanning El Rosario, Candelaria, and Arafo, with the contract going to Señalizaciones Villar, S.A.

To minimise traffic disruption during peak hours, the majority of the work will take place at night. Road users are advised to pay attention to temporary signage, reduce speed in affected areas, and follow traffic management instructions.

This upcoming work continues from previous rehabilitation efforts on the TF-1 that saw approximately 24 kilometres of road resurfaced between Arico, Fasnia, and Güímar, costing around €30 million. The total investment for the projects on the motorway now stands at approximately €43.86 million.

The current phase will also involve road safety improvements, including repainting road markings, installing new signage, and eco-friendly practices such as using up to 50% recycled materials in asphalt mixtures. The works are associated with the BUS-VAO lane project, incorporating intelligent transport systems for added efficiency.
