Tenerife suffered a defeat against Córdoba, losing 3-2 in an action-packed match on Monday. Despite equalising twice, they ultimately succumbed to a shot from Isma Ruiz in the 77th minute.
The game had a fast pace from the start, with Córdoba scoring quickly. Eder García found the ball just outside the box and his shot hit the crossbar, bouncing in. The goal was confirmed after a VAR review.
Tenerife responded swiftly, equalising in the 17th minute when Gomis converted a one-on-one chance against goalkeeper Guilherme. However, Córdoba regained the lead just six minutes later. Diego Percan found the net with a close-range finish from a pass by Diego Bri.
The first half included a controversial moment when the referee initially issued a straight red to Córdoba’s Rubén Alves for a tackle on Enric Gallego. This decision was changed to yellow cards for both players after a VAR review.
Before halftime, Tenerife nearly equalised again, but Enric Gallego’s header was cleared off the line by Tasende.
In the second half, Córdoba had several chances to extend their lead. Ghailan missed a clear opportunity in the 57th minute when he failed to score into an empty net. Tenerife capitalised on this in the 68th minute, with Ranos, a fresh substitute, scoring from a defensive mistake to make it 2-2.
The match became increasingly frenetic, culminating in Isma Ruiz’s decisive strike in the 77th minute, which hit the top corner. Tenerife’s task became tougher in the 87th minute when Juanjo received a second yellow card, leaving them with ten men.
Despite pressing for an equaliser, Tenerife couldn’t find the net again. This defeat leaves them on 11 points after eight matches, maintaining a winless record in Córdoba, where they have failed to secure a victory in 27 encounters. Meanwhile, Córdoba now has nine points and moves out of the relegation zone in LaLiga Hypermotion.
