Spanish rescue services have intercepted two boats off the coasts of Gran Canaria and Lanzarote, carrying over 300 migrants.
The first vessel, found near Lanzarote, was carrying 229 individuals. Many required medical attention for dehydration and hypothermia. Meanwhile, the second boat, located near Gran Canaria, had 83 migrants on board.
The rescues form part of ongoing efforts to address the rise in migration across the Canary Islands, with reports indicating an increase in departures from North Africa. Since the beginning of the year, more than 16,000 migrants have made the perilous journey, making it one of the busiest years for migration in recent times.
Authorities continue to stress the dangers of these crossings and the importance of safe migration routes.
