Asamblea Majorera–Coalición Canaria Fuerteventura has named Nuria Cabrera as its candidate for the Senate and Juan José Rodríguez for the third spot on the coalition’s list for the Congress of Deputies. This decision comes ahead of the general elections scheduled for 29 November.
Both nominations received unanimous backing from the Assembly and the Insular Political Council after voting at the party’s headquarters. The coalition has opted for a new generation of candidates who have demonstrated a strong commitment to the party and its institutions.
Mario Cabrera, Secretary of AM-CC Fuerteventura, emphasised the confidence the organisation has in the candidates. “These are the voices we need to advocate for Fuerteventura’s interests at the national level,” he said. He added that the commitment shown at the local level must be carried over to the Senate and, if possible, the Congress of Deputies.
Cabrera noted that the upcoming elections present a complex political landscape marked by growing tensions between major national parties, which he claims are more focused on their own interests than on addressing the real needs of the Canary Islands.
He insisted that having a Canary nationalist representation in Madrid is essential for improving life in the islands and for ensuring the continuity of their rights, regardless of who is in power. He stated, “In these elections, the nationalist vote is crucial. We need representatives who will advocate for Canary interests without being beholden to the directives of larger national parties.”
Nuria Cabrera expressed gratitude for the trust placed in her and acknowledged the responsibility of her candidacy. She highlighted pressing issues facing Fuerteventura, such as housing, water supply, and connectivity, and stressed the need for a dedicated voice in the Senate to convey the island’s demands to the government.
Juan José Rodríguez accepted his nomination with enthusiasm and highlighted the need to refocus politics on the island’s residents. “Amid all this noise and conflict, we want to show that it’s possible to work towards real improvements for our community,” he said.
Finally, AM-CC Fuerteventura called on party members and supporters to unite for this electoral challenge, stating, “It’s time to demonstrate the strength of our organisation and our ability to defend Fuerteventura where crucial decisions are made.”
