Nearly 300 Participants in Neuromajo Competitions
Around 300 participants are taking part in the 2026-2027 Neuromajo season, a project supported by the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the Association Neurolímpica, with involvement from all six municipalities. New collaborators this year include Padilla Supermercados Spar, Grupo Barceló, and Dany Sport, all aimed at promoting active ageing for older adults.
The competing teams are Las Elegidas and Imparables (Antigua), Virgen de la Peña (Betancuria), Las Guirre, Las Lobas and La Tahona (La Oliva), L@s Atrevid@s, Cofete, Faro, Amigos de Pájara, Pájara se Mueve, and Playas de Pájara (Pájara), Las Apañás, Las Baifas, Maxopuerto, and Los Picarones (Puerto del Rosario), and Camellito and Las Moriscas (Tuineje).
Following the inaugural parade on Friday, 16 October, in Caleta de Fuste (Antigua), the 18 teams gathered today at Playitas Sports Resort in Tuineje for the qualifying rounds, which included Relays, Aro Canario, and Cifras y Letras tests.
Local leaders, including President Lola García and Social Action Councillor Víctor Alonso, welcomed participants and coaches, praising their effort and commitment, and extended thanks to those who make Neuromajo possible.
Mayors and local councillors attended the event, alongside the Spanish Association Against Cancer, which held a symbolic act for World Breast Cancer Day.
Organiser Besay Rodríguez said, “Fuerteventura continues to be a beacon for the other islands, just as in previous editions.”
The competition will resume tomorrow, Sunday, 18 October, with the Figuras de Colores test, culminating in final rounds where four teams will qualify for the regional final in Pájara next month, featuring the best teams from across the archipelago.
Letter Race
A new feature this year, the Letter Race, took place outside the main competition weekend, covering all municipalities in Fuerteventura from 2 to 8 October. Beyond the competition, Neuromajo aims to foster a sense of community, strengthen camaraderie, and promote active ageing among the island’s seniors.
