The Board of Directors of the Promotion Society of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has approved a budget of €25,350,588 for the 2027 financial year, according to a statement from the city council. This proposed budget will be presented to the General Assembly, comprised of the full council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, for final approval.
The budget outlines strategic plans focusing on events and culture, aiming to enhance the city’s cultural programming, boost its international profile, and support local industries related to popular festivals and major events.
A significant component of the budget is dedicated to the Las Palmas Carnival, recently recognised as an International Tourist Interest Festival in 2023. It is considered the city’s most important event for its social, economic, and tourism impact. The main objective for the 2027 Carnival remains to sustain the surrounding industrial sector, including hospitality, catering, and transport, which has seen significant growth due to rising national, international, and inter-island tourism, drawn by both the galas and the vibrant street Carnival.
Furthermore, events throughout the year will continue to promote the Carnival, ensuring the vitality of the associated industry, in line with its International Tourist Interest designation. The upcoming budget will also cover the management and execution of five major district festivals: El Carmen, San Lorenzo, Los Dolores, El Pilar, and La Naval.
The Culture department will allocate funds to support major cultural events and initiate new projects. Notable activities include the International Film Festival, Foundational Festivals, and the Night of San Juan. Other events include the International Theatre, Music, and Dance Festival (TEMUDAS), as well as traditional celebrations like the Night of the Departed and the grand Baile de Taifas for Canary Islands Day.
Christmas festivities will feature citywide activities, along with musical cycles such as “Musicando” and “Classics at Quegles.” The budget also supports the Jesús Arencibia Cultural Centre and the Martín Chirino Art and Thought Foundation.
Additional initiatives include cultural programming in districts, activities by the Municipal Symphony Orchestra, events at Castillo de Mata, and ongoing library services as community spaces. There will also be financial backing for various cultural projects and initiatives throughout the year.
Lastly, the budget includes necessary internal operation costs like personnel, social security, supplies, cleaning, security, legal and financial services, as well as maintaining properties essential for its operational efficiency.
