Official Programme for Adeje’s Patron Saint Festivals Unveiled
The 2026 Patron Saint Festivals in Adeje have an official programme, presented by Mayor José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga on 2 October. The event included local youth and adult representatives, alongside the town’s parish priest, Agalac Alonso Siverio, and Councillor for Culture, Education, and Sports, Adolfo Alonso Ferrera.
This year’s festivities mark the 65th anniversary of the Virgin of the Incarnation being named honorary and perpetual mayor of Adeje.
A Historic Celebration
Rodríguez Fraga noted the significance of Adeje’s Patron Saint Festivals, stating they are among the oldest in southern Tenerife, with records of devotion to the Virgin dating back to the 16th century. He highlighted that while summer sees individual celebrations across various neighbourhoods, October’s events represent unity and a collective culmination of those festivities.
Commemorating a Milestone
The mayor reminisced about the initial honouring of the Virgin in 1961, reaffirmed in 1994, when the democratic council officially named her the mayor. This title accompanies her canonical coronation.
Remembering a Sacred Commitment
Father Siverio explained that this year’s events reaffirm the cultural and religious heritage tied to a sacred commitment dating back centuries. On 4 October, a flag-raising ceremony will occur, featuring a special homage to the Virgin from the Lieutenant General of the Canary Military Command. The main celebration will be on 11 October in Plaza de España, where a solemn Eucharist will be held due to restoration work on the church.
Emphasising Local Talent
Councillor Alonso Ferrera outlined the programme and highlighted local resources such as the Municipal Music School and the Adeje Folklore Group. He declared “Adeje Canta” as a prominent event showcasing local talent without needing outside comparison. He also announced the 41st Folklore Festival, featuring a group from Tías, as well as performances by artists like Cristina Ramos and Falete.
Day-by-Day Festivities
Festivities began on 29 September with the 54th Roque del Conde Triangular Football Tournament, hosted at the Municipal Football Field in Adeje.
From 2 to 4 October, the Lustral Closing Gala takes place, recognising community contributions alongside the International Clownbaret Festival. The religious events will resume on 4 October with a Eucharist and the inauguration speech from the Lieutenant General.
The celebrations continue from 9 to 11 October, featuring various exhibitions, including the “Ellas” gala and street performances, culminating on 11 October, the Day of the Virgin, with a cross-country run, a solemn mass, and evening entertainment by Cristina Ramos.
Further activities include the Santa Ursula procession on 12 October, children’s events on the 13th, and “Adeje Canta” on the 14th. The celebrations conclude on 18 October with a pilgrimage and grand finale concert.
