Costa Teguise secured a strong start to their basketball season with a 68-55 win over AD Los Toscones from Fuerteventura at the IES Costa Teguise Pavilion on Sunday. This match was part of the first round of the Interinsular League (LIIC).
The three-time Interinsular champions began the game well, leading 19-14 after the first quarter. They made a decisive break in the second quarter, limiting Toscones to just five points and extending their lead to twenty by half-time, with a score of 39-19. Although Toscones managed to perform slightly better in the final two quarters, they could not threaten Costa Teguise’s victory.
Lionel Montesdeoca from the visitors topped the scoring with 19 points, while Blas Ríos led for Costa Teguise with 14 points.
Coach Federico Toledo commented after the match, “Many players took part yesterday. Toscones have a talented, tall player, nearly two metres. We had two juniors, Juanma and Lucas Echeverría, who didn’t play with the junior team today. Three new players, Bruno, Miguel, and Mensey, made their debuts and performed well. Despite some absences, we’ve competed seriously and maintained a strong lead throughout the game. I’m very happy to start the season with positive results.”
Costa Teguise will next face Arrecife Conejeros Sub22 at the IES Las Salinas Pavilion on 23 October at 21:15.
