Weather conditions in the Canary Islands will shift this Saturday, 17 October, as the calima subsides and temperatures drop across much of the archipelago. The State Meteorological Agency, Aemet, forecasts a slight to moderate decrease in maximum temperatures, particularly noticeable in the inland areas of Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
Light rain is also likely to develop later in the day on several islands, especially in northern and elevated regions, with remaining dust expected to be minimal and mainly at mid to high altitudes. Aemet anticipates the calima will begin clearing from midday.
The most significant temperature drops are expected in the northwestern interior of Gran Canaria and the northeastern interior of Tenerife, while coastal areas should see only slight changes.
In Tenerife, the weather will be partly cloudy or mostly clear throughout the day. Increased cloudiness is expected in the north and west, particularly in the morning and evening, with a low chance of light rain in the northeast during the late afternoon. Temperatures in Santa Cruz de Tenerife are predicted to be between 22°C and 28°C.
Gran Canaria will predominantly see clear skies, but cloudiness will increase in the north later in the day, leading to a possibility of light rain. Temperatures in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria are expected to range from 23°C to 26°C, with more noticeable falls inland.
Light rain may also spread to La Gomera, La Palma, and El Hierro during the late afternoon. Northern areas of La Gomera and northeastern areas of La Palma are most likely to experience this light rain.
Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will see cloudy intervals with light calima at higher altitudes, expected to weaken from midday. In these areas, maximum temperatures will drop, with Arrecife and Puerto del Rosario forecasted at around 26°C.
At sea, easterly winds of force three to four are expected along the coasts, with stronger gusts offshore. Overall, Saturday signifies a marked weather change across the Canary Islands, with the calima easing, cooler temperatures, and the potential for light rain in several regions later in the day.
