Julia Rodríguez, a celebrated canarian singer-songwriter, blends traditional Canary Islands music with contemporary influences in her latest album, Hacia la Vida. This month, she will showcase her work as part of the Mousikê 2026 festival, which celebrates its 16th anniversary by promoting collaboration among a new generation of Canarian musicians.

The Espacio TEA in Agaete joins the festival this year through a partnership with the Cabildo de Gran Canaria. Mousikê has produced over 250 masterclasses, available on its YouTube channel, which boasts more than 17,300 subscribers and 1.7 million views.

Rodríguez, originally from Fuerteventura, has studied jazz singing, flute, and timple (a traditional Canarian string instrument). Now based in Madrid, she performs her own songs as well as those from various folklore and contemporary music projects.

The festival’s three events include a concert on the 15th October at the Teatro Guiniguada in Las Palmas, where Rodríguez will perform The Voice: Creativity and Tradition. The concert will feature songs from her album, exploring the connection between musical heritage and personal creativity.

On the 16th October, the first of two masterclasses will take place at the Espacio TEA in Agaete. The second will be held on the 17th October at the Ex Convento de Santo Domingo in La Laguna, Tenerife. Both sessions will focus on vocal technique and musical identity, fostering creativity within both traditional and modern styles.

Mousikê, which has operated since 2010, aims to break down the isolation faced by artists in the Canary Islands. This initiative resonates internationally, with collaborations and recognition across several countries, including the United States, Japan, and various Latin American nations.

The events are supported by local institutions, including the Gobierno de Canarias and the Cabildo de Gran Canaria. Tickets for the concert are available online and start from four euros.
