Santa Cruz de Tenerife will host its first-ever Father Christmas Parade on the evening of December 24, as part of new festive events planned by the local council. This initiative aims to enhance preparations for one of the year’s most cherished family celebrations.
Javier Caraballero, the councillor in charge, told DIARIO DE AVISOS that “we are planning activities in the city for Christmas, a crucial time when many people come to shop and enjoy the local cuisine. Next year, we will also be the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy, which will boost Santa Cruz’s economy.”
Caraballero emphasised that Christmas significantly benefits the city’s commercial, tourism, and hospitality sectors. This year, activities will focus on attracting more residents and visitors.
In addition to the official Christmas lights switch-on on November 19 and the arrival of the Three Kings at Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium on January 5, 2027, the Father Christmas Parade will add to the festive agenda, which will feature events across all districts of Santa Cruz, not just the city centre.
The councillor highlighted that his department consists of 21 staff members, supplemented by external service providers. They work throughout the year on city events, continuously preparing for upcoming festivities.
Caraballero expressed that “Christmas is the most beautiful time of the year, alongside Carnival, and we dedicate a lot of heart to this celebration because of its special significance.”
This year, the budget for festive celebrations has been increased by €500,000, with part of the funds allocated to Christmas, Carnival, and May festivities.
