The restructuring aims to improve both visitor experience and internal operations. It allows a full day for maintenance and conservation work, which previously had to be done in limited time before opening. Closing on Tuesdays will enable more complex tasks, such as moving exhibits and carrying out deeper interventions, without disrupting visitor hours.

Choosing Tuesday for the closure also aligns with the goal of keeping the museum open on Mondays when many other cultural sites are closed. This ensures that visitors to the city can still enjoy cultural offerings on that day.

In addition, the change will extend the hours for free entry on Sundays and select dates, allowing access from 10:00 to 18:00, thus providing more opportunities for both locals and visitors to explore the museum without charge.

Casa de Colón is one of the most popular museums in Gran Canaria and among the most visited in the Canary Islands, making it essential to balance public access with the necessary conditions for safeguarding the cultural heritage it houses.
