Garanča, an acclaimed mezzo-soprano, is set to interpret Richard Strauss’s “Four Last Songs,” marking her first time performing this significant work on the island. These songs, composed in the latter part of Strauss’s life, reflect themes of time, farewell, and acceptance of mortality. The piece premiered posthumously in London in 1950.

The concert will also include the premiere of “Timepiece” by American composer Cindy McTee, which explores the musical experience of time through contrasting elements of stillness and movement.

Tickets for the concert range from €14 to €30 and can be purchased online at www.ofgrancanaria.com or at box offices for the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra. Special discounts are available for the unemployed and for those over 65 and under 26.

Elina Garanča, referred to as the leading mezzo-soprano of her generation, has received international acclaim for her performances. She is celebrated for her portrayal of Carmen in Bizet’s opera and has performed at some of the world’s most prestigious opera houses. Her recent appearances include a European tour of Verdi’s “Messa da Requiem” and her debut at the Bayreuth Festival in 2024 as Kundry.

Karel Mark Chichon, the orchestra’s artistic director since 2017, has led the ensemble to new artistic heights, including collaborations with Deutsche Grammophon. He has a distinguished conducting career, having worked with leading orchestras and opera houses worldwide.
