The town council of Granadilla de Abona, led by Marcos Antonio Rodríguez Santana, is enhancing its pest control services. Since the contract began on 1 July 2025, the council has resolved 180 complaints from residents up until 31 August 2026.
The service, awarded to Fumigadora Internacional S.L., combines scheduled preventive measures with responses to public reports. The contract guarantees inspection and action within 48 hours of each incident being reported.
Rodríguez Santana emphasised that pest control is vital for the health and wellbeing of residents. He noted ongoing monitoring of the service, which aims to blend prevention with prompt responses to issues raised by the community.
He added, “Addressing and resolving these 180 incidents highlights the significance of proper planning and a responsive service to meet the actual needs of our municipality. We are committed to strengthening these efforts to maintain our public spaces in the best possible condition.”
Key activities have included campaigns for insect and rat control in sewage and stormwater systems, with three annual interventions scheduled for February, June, and October. Two phases have already been completed in El Médano, Los Abrigos, and San Isidro, with the final phase planned before the year’s end.
The service also maintains 20 traps for controlling pigeons, conducts regular inspections in municipal buildings, and implements preventive treatments in schools before the academic year starts.
Additionally, the municipality is ready to deal with specific issues such as ants, wasps, fleas, bedbugs, and isolated mosquito outbreaks, alongside ongoing efforts to manage cockroach and rodent populations. The Public Municipal Services department continues to provide preventive treatments and address resident concerns throughout Granadilla de Abona.
