International Music Festival of the Canary Islands 2026 Combines Music and Science
The International Music Festival of the Canary Islands 2026 will feature an impressive lineup during its sixth contemporary cycle, taking place from 28 September to 5 October.
Among the highlights is a performance by the duo Tanja Becker-Bender and Sofya Melikyan, who will present ‘Celebrating Kurtág’. The concert, held in Gran Canaria and Tenerife, will include a groundbreaking neuroscience experiment led by Dr Jesús Martín-Fernández.
World Premieres and International Concerts
The German ensemble Trío Abstrakt will showcase their dynamic programme ‘PuLsar’ on both islands, including the world premiere of a new composition by local artist Alicia González de la Fe.
The DifrAcción Ensemble, directed by José María Vicente, will perform on 2 and 3 October with a focus on environmental awareness. They will also premiere works by local composers Paula Pinero and Alberto Díaz González.
Lanzarote’s Contribution to the Festival
The festival will extend to Lanzarote, featuring acclaimed pianist and mathematician Laura Farré Rozada, who will present her programme ‘From Chaos to Cosmos’ on 5 October at the Convento de Santo Domingo in Teguise. This performance will explore the fascinating link between mathematics and music composition. Farré Rozada will also perform in Fuerteventura and La Palma.
The festival will conclude with a special performance by a group led by Jordi Francés, unveiling a contemporary piece by José Luis Perdigón titled ‘Icebergs Melt at Night’.
Supported by the Government of the Canary Islands through the ICDC, the festival promises an engaging cultural experience, complete with thought-provoking discussions under the hashtag #endiálogo. The official closing event will be presented by the Ensemble Sonido Extremo on 10 and 11 October.
