Tenerife Cabildo Approves £209,000 Upgrade for TF-4 Lighting
The Tenerife Cabildo has awarded a contract for the replacement of lighting on the South TF-4 road, located within Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The project, valued at €209,001, will be carried out by IMESAPI, S.A., with an expected completion time of four weeks from the start date.
Cabildo President Rosa Dávila stated that this initiative reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing road safety and modernising infrastructure used by thousands daily. She emphasised the importance of improving not just the road surface and capacity, but also essential elements like lighting to ensure safer journeys.
Dávila highlighted the need for roads to be safer, more efficient, and sustainable, noting that the lighting renovation on the TF-4 exemplifies this approach by enhancing safety, boosting energy efficiency, and reducing light pollution.
Councillor for Roads, Dámaso Arteaga, explained that the project is part of a broader effort to modernise road facilities and improve safety for all users, particularly at night. He indicated that the upgrades include the installation of luminaries designed to be more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.
The TF-4 renovation aligns with the Cabildo’s strategy to enhance the lighting across the island’s road network. The new contract for maintenance and operation is budgeted at an initial €9.9 million, potentially rising to €21 million, benefitting over 100,000 drivers.
The contract is divided into two lots, covering both the northern and southern regions, with the TF-4 included in the southern lot alongside the TF-1, TF-2, and other key routes. This plan incorporates regular maintenance, inspections, and emergency response protocols, ensuring swift action on critical safety issues.
With the upgrade, lighting sources will shift from 4,000 K to LED fixtures rated at 2,700 K or less, aimed at reducing light pollution. All new installations will feature a programmed dimming system for midnight hours, with no additional costs to the Cabildo.
Arteaga concluded by reaffirming the Cabildo’s dedication to a dual strategy: renewing specific installations while simultaneously enhancing the overall maintenance and conservation of the island’s road lighting.
