Sabina Vizcaíno, the PSOE’s Secretary for Health in Lanzarote, has accused Coalición Canaria of monopolising public institutions. She criticised the Canary Islands Government for postponing the public presentation of the Health Infrastructure Master Plan while providing information to its party members at a recent event.

“While the public is left in silence, Coalición Canaria’s members receive privileged information. This is a lack of respect towards an island that has been waiting for answers about its healthcare. Institutions do not belong to Coalición Canaria,” Vizcaíno stated.

The meeting took place on 14 October in Arrecife and featured CC’s regional secretary Pedro San Ginés, the director of the Lanzarote Health Area, Erasmo García, and healthcare manager Pablo Eguía.

Vizcaíno questioned, “Why does a CC member have access to information that is still being denied to the rest of the public?” She emphasised that the Canary Islands Government submitted the Plan for Health Services to the regional health service for review on 15 October, the day after the meeting. She demanded clarity on what documents were shared and why they were presented to party members first.

She stressed the urgency of addressing the future of the Insular Hospital, noting that community members protested for its continuity, not for information to be disclosed privately at a party headquarters. “Thousands took to the streets to defend the Insular Hospital, requiring guarantees about its future, reforms, and public elder care. They are still waiting,” she said.

Vizcaíno condemned CC’s prioritisation of party agenda over the pressing healthcare needs of Lanzarote, including waiting lists and health centre issues. She insisted that if the Plan is significant enough for the party members, it should also be presented publicly to all citizens.

The socialist leader has called on the Canary Islands Government to publicly share the Plan, outline actions for Lanzarote and La Graciosa, and provide details on timelines and funding, ensuring the Insular Hospital’s services and reforms.
