Tenerife’s road council chief, Dámaso Arteaga, announced on Friday that the local government is awaiting legal reports to assess the economic impact of resuming environmental processing for the Motor Circuit project, following confirmation from the courts that the previous approval has lapsed.
“We don’t want to speculate on the costs involved; we aim to rigorously comply with all aspects stemming from the court’s ruling,” he stated in response to a question from Vox during a council meeting.
Arteaga assured that necessary steps would be taken to align the project with environmental requirements, noting that the courts have made it clear that the territorial plan is indefinitely valid.
Vox’s Ana Salazar supported the project, emphasising its social and economic significance and calling for a “solution.” She urged for thorough planning reviews and accurate timelines moving forward.
“Our group believes that environmental protection and infrastructure development can coexist; it’s about adhering to the law, providing necessary documentation, and ensuring legal certainty for the actions taken,” she asserted.
Salazar also requested the governing body to provide an updated action plan with realistic objectives.
