The Costa Teguise Judo Club in Lanzarote is celebrating notable success as three of its judokas prepare to compete in the Spanish Championship. The southern sector phase of the championship will take place on 1 November in Cáceres, following impressive performances at the Canary Islands Championship held recently in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The Lanzarote team, consisting solely of Costa Teguise members, earned two silver medals and achieved a fifth-place finish. Xerach, competing in the -66 kg category, and Álvaro, in -73 kg, both secured second place, guaranteeing their spot in the next stage of the championship.
Another competitor, Medina, competing in the -81 kg category, faced a setback with an injury during his second match. However, he showed resilience, continuing in the tournament and finishing fifth.
The team travelled to Gran Canaria on Saturday, supported by their coaches Alejandro Ramírez and national referee Ernesto Lozano.
Antonio Ramírez, head of the Costa Teguise Judo Club, stated, “With these results, the club once again puts its athletes on the national stage, at the forefront of Spanish judo. Now we need to focus on the event in Cáceres on 1 November.”
