The event kicked off with the unveiling of the second issue of Timple, the first dedicated magazine about this traditional Canarian instrument.

Marcos Hormiga, the magazine’s coordinator, expressed pride in the publication, highlighting its significance not just for today, but for future generations. The magazine features contributions from established musicians as well as emerging talents. Notable artists include Domingo Rodríguez ‘El Colorao’, Benito Cabrera, David Duque, Derque Martín Cruz, Julia Rodríguez, Laura Martel, and Pedro Ageno, alongside writers such as Elsa López, Félix Hormiga, and Yeray Rodríguez.

Researchers like Félix Morales and Víctor J. Landeria also feature in the magazine, along with prominent journalists such as Juan García Luján, who writes about José Antonio Ramos, a key figure in the timple community.

Lola García, President of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, remarked that the timple is a symbol of their culture. She commended local musicians and researchers for their lasting impact, emphasising the importance of Timple in preserving this heritage.

Rayco León, Cultural Councillor, noted the importance of capturing the voices of composers, performers, and writers in the magazine, which serves as an essential tool for promoting the timple. He mentioned plans to distribute the magazine to schools and libraries to broaden its reach.

Domingo Rodríguez ‘El Colorao’ pointed out that while there are specialised magazines for instruments like the charango, this initiative fills a gap for the timple, aiming to enhance its popularity.

The Cultural Department organises this year’s National Timple Meeting, under Rodríguez’s artistic direction and in collaboration with the Fuerteventura Island Music School.

Events today include the opening of the exhibition ‘Timple, Tradition and Vanguards’ by David Sánchez, and a workshop on creating timples from recycled materials led by Adán Moreno.

At 8:30 PM, the concert by Pino&Pino will showcase the charango, a string instrument related to the timple, along with Andean traditional pieces and works from the Spanish Baroque era.

Activities will continue until 25 October, with the schedule available on Fuerteventura Culture.

The event’s engagement will extend throughout the year, including activities in schools with student participation.
