Sergio Ramos, a former senator for Gran Canaria, will head the Popular Party’s (PP) list for the Congress of Deputies in the Las Palmas province during the general elections set for 29 November.

The Gran Canaria PP announced his candidacy on Wednesday, praising Ramos as a “hardworking politician committed to his homeland,” predicting he would provide a “clear and forceful voice against socialism and its policies.”

Having previously served as a senator until stepping away from active politics due to health issues in November 2024, Ramos returns to lead the electoral list for the PP. He also held the position of deputy mayor of Telde during this legislative term.

Following Ramos on the list are María Teresa Ortega, the current director of the Canarian Employment Service, and Guillermo Mariscal, who will occupy the third place. Carlos Sánchez, the current PP president in Gran Canaria, will lead the party’s Senate list for the island, with María del Mar Arévalo also included.

Jimena Delgado was the PP’s head candidate in the previous 2023 general elections, but she will not stand again this time.
