The Ministry of Public Works, Housing, and Mobility is now inviting public comment on the proposal, allowing residents to review the documentation and submit their feedback. This follows a lack of response from the regional government until now, despite the city meeting requirements set out in the national housing law.

The public consultation period runs from Thursday, 15 October, to Thursday, 12 November. Residents can submit their comments electronically through the Government’s Citizen Participation portal, in person at government offices, or via other means outlined in the 2015 Administrative Procedure Act.

The city council initially requested the start of the preparatory procedure on 10 May 2024 to assess the residential market situation. By 20 January 2025, it formally requested the entire municipality to be declared a tensioned zone. After several requests for documentation, the council submitted the necessary paperwork by 11 March 2026. The Canary Islands Housing Institute reviewed this documentation and confirmed that it allowed for the continuation of processing the public consultation.

This procedure is conducted under decree-law 1/2024, which outlines urgent measures for housing in the Canary Islands. Following the public consultation, the Housing Institute will address all proposals before making a final decision on the matter.
