The Popular Party of Lanzarote and La Graciosa has called urgently for immediate general elections following the rejection of two housing decrees on Friday.
María Jesús Tovar, president of the Popular Party in Lanzarote and La Graciosa, stated that the current situation is “completely unsustainable.” She insisted that “Pedro Sánchez cannot remain at the helm of the country for another minute. This legislature is over.”
Tovar argued that the Congress’s rejection of the housing decrees illustrates that the PSOE lacks the necessary majority to govern. She claimed, “Sánchez has been surviving for years through countless concessions to Catalans and Basques, measures that have harmed all Spaniards, aimed solely at keeping him in Moncloa.”
Regarding the housing decrees, Tovar explained the Popular Party’s opposition, stating they will not support Sánchez’s new initiatives while the housing crisis worsens. “The story of MariCarmen has sparked these two decrees, which are ultimately contradictory as one cancels out the other. These decrees do nothing but mock the Spanish people,” she added. She also pointed out that the country has gone four years without General State Budgets, which has caused a “real disaster for Lanzarote and La Graciosa.”
Tovar concluded by asserting that the Popular Party has a set of practical and viable housing measures that not only benefit those seeking homes amid soaring prices but also offer security to property owners who often find themselves unprotected by the law.
