Construction has resumed on 27 affordable rental homes in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, specifically at number 95, León y Castillo Street, in the Arenales neighbourhood. The project is nearing 75% completion, according to the city council, which oversees the development through its Urban Management Society (GEURSA).
The works have restarted following modifications to the original project, with an anticipated completion date set for the first quarter of 2027.
The development is on a 594-square-metre site and features a seven-storey building housing 27 apartments ranging from one to five bedrooms, with floor areas between 50 and 132 square metres. Two of the homes will be adapted for accessibility.
In addition to the residences, the building will include two commercial spaces, one designated for community use, and approximately 20 storage units in the basement.
The project also incorporates a public pathway on the lower level, allowing residents access to an urban garden adjoining the CEIP Aguadulce school and the historic Swanston chimney, built in the early 20th century for a bakery in the area.
The venture represents an investment of €3.3 million, funded by the Canary Islands Housing Institute (ICAVI) as part of the Canary Islands Housing Plan 2020-2025. These homes are intended for affordable rental, targeting families and young people, and the building will feature energy-efficient measures, including improved thermal insulation, regulated lighting to maximise natural light, and solar energy systems to help meet hot water needs.
